This 5,900 m2 building was designed to create the appropriate interdisciplinary environment, drawing on research expertise from across the campus and enabling a lively and innovative new medical school to realize its full potential in pushing forward the frontiers of knowledge.  Strategically located between Swansea University’s School of Medicine and the city’s Singleton Hospital, the six storey building is home to more than 200 specialists and 20 professor-led research groups focusing on high quality and multi-disciplinary research.

The building enables research to be carried out into new solutions for healthcare treatment, personalised medicine and disease control greatly contributing to our understanding of cancer, obesity, diabetes and infection.
The energy strategy included ground source heat pumps supplementing the campus-wide CHP heating source, natural ventilation to office areas and BMS controlled lighting.
